Obit of the Day (Breaking): Libyan Leader Muammar Gaddafi

According to Al-Jazeera English, and reported by the Washington Post, Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi has died due to injuries suffered during the attack on his hometown of Sirte. The National Transitional Council first reported that Gaddafi was wounded in both legs and head during the firefight for the last stronghold of Gaddafi supporters in the country.

Gaddafi, who was 69 years old, had led the country since taking leadership in a military coup in 1969. (Coincidentally the same year that Saddam Hussein took power in Iraq.) Although still nominally the president of Libya, the Transitional National Council was recognized as the legitimate governing body of the country on July 15, 2011 by over thirty countries including the United States.
