Obit of the Day: Here’s the Story of a Man Named Beardsley

In 1961 Frank Beardsley, widowed father of ten, married Helen Noth, widowed mother of eight. Bringing together both families Frank and Helen adopted the other’s children and they became the Brady Bunch - times three. The children ranged in ages from six months to 15 years old.

The Beardsley’s would add two more children of their own to the mix bringing the final total up to twenty. Helen Beardsley would write a book about her unique family titled Who Gets the Drumstick?. Comedian and actress Lucille Ball read the book and found it so wonderful that she worked to make it into a movie.

The 1968 film, Yours, Mine, and Ours, co-starred Henry Fonda and was more of a screwball comedy than the family life portrayed in Mrs. Beardsley’s book but was a hit. (Another version was made in 2005 with Rene Russo and Dennis Quaid but was not as successful.)

Helen Beardsley passed away in 2000 and Frank Beardsley remarried that same year, at the age of 85. He would pass away on December 11, 2012 at the age of 97. All twenty of the Beardsley children are still living at the time of this post.
