Obit of the Day: “Uncle Vernon Dursley”
Character actor Richard Griffiths who is best known for his role as Uncle Vernon Dursley in the Harry Potter series of films, died on March 28, 2013 at the age of 65. He passed away from complications following heart surgery.
Mr. Griffiths who would have parts in films for over five decades including Superman II, Chariots of Fire, Gandhi, and Hugo. He earned his start on stage with the Royal Shakespeare Company where he earned critical acclaim for his performances as Henry VIII and Falstaff.
Raised by two deaf parents, Mr. Griffiths earned a Tony Award for his role of Hector in the play The History Boys, which he reprised in the film version. He received the Order of the British Empire in 2007 for his contributions to drama. 
And in one final note, Mr. Griffiths was considered for role of the fifth Doctor in the Doctor Who television series and, later, to become the eighth Doctor but the series was cancelled after the 1989 season.
