Obit of the Day: Cover Artist
Bill Johnson is a two-time Grammy Award winner. He won in 1987 and again in 1988. You’ve probably never heard of him. But you may be familiar with his work.
John, a graphic designer, made his mark by re-designing the Rolling Stone magazine logo in the 1970s. It’s still in use today.
Then in 1980 he moved to CBS Records and designed album artwork. Focusing on country artists, Johnson designed covers for Willie Nelson and George Jones. He won a Grammy for the artwork on Roseanne Cash’s King’s Record Shop in ‘87 and again the next year for Tired of the Runnin’ by The O’Kanes.
Johnson was 58 years old.
