Obit of the Day: Forrest Blue
With the 15th pick in the 1968 draft, the San Francisco 49ers chose Auburn University center Forrest Blue, Jr. Blue would play seven seasons with the ‘Niners. He was named an All-Pro in 1971 and 1972 and was a Pro Bowler from 1971-1974. After the ‘74 season he was traded to the Baltimore Colts where he finished his career, retiring after the 1978 season. You can find his full stats here.
As I’ve written on OOTD previously, Mr. Blue (fantastic name, btw) did not make it here solely because of his NFL career. His cause of death is just as important: dementia and Parkinson’s disease. He donated his brain for study on the impact that head trauma suffered during football has on neurological function.
Another retired football player with brain injuries.
