Fascinating Olympic story connecting billionaires with a teenage table tennis sensation.
Why yes that is Microsoft founder-turned-philanthropist Bill Gates at this afternoon’s (or evening’s if you are in London) table tennis match between the 16-year-old U.S. star Ariel Hsing and world’s number one Li Xiaoxia of China.
In case you didn’t know Miss Hsing is a protege of both Mr. Gates and another multi-billionaire, Warren Buffett. Mr. Buffett first played Miss Hsing in table tennis when she was only nine years old. In the intervening years, the investing genius has had the young phenom out to various Berkshire Hathaway functions where she would defeat employees for entertainment - do with that what you will.
Ariel Hsing lost in six sets to Li Xiaoxia, 11-4, 9-11, 11-6, 6-11, 11-8, 11-9. (Table tennis is a best-of-seven affair.)
